Eyewitness video captured the shocking footage of intense flames and smoke shrouding a yacht off the Egyptian Red Sea coast on Sunday.

Kuwaiti tourist Abdulrahman A. Alsarheed, was on a water safari when he and his group saw the smoke billowing from around 50 metres away.

Alsarheed and other tourists aboard the Blue Planet Liveaboards yacht deployed lifeboats to rescue many of the passengers aboard the engulfed boat.

While 12 tourists were rescued, three British passengers are still missing, according to Red Sea state governor officials.

Passengers aboard the wrecked boat (named “Hurricane”) had been on the ship since June 6, as part of a trip around Egypt’s Red Sea resort in Marsa Alam.

The fire was reportedly caused by a short circuit in the yacht’s electrical system.
