11-year-old Mississippi boy shot by police officer, family demands justice

After calling the police to his Mississippi home on May 20 in an attempt to protect his mother from a domestic disturbance, 11-year-old Aderrien Murry was shot in the chest by Indianola police officer Greg Capers.

Alongside attorney Carlos Moore, the Murry family pleaded for the officer’s temporary dismissal on Friday, demanding charges and termination.

Murry, who called police at the request of his mother, Nakala, was unarmed and followed instructions from Capers before being shot by the officer, according to Moore. The call followed threats from an armed man at 4 a.m. local time, who was supposedly the boy’s father.

Murry was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment immediately after. He was released on Wednesday.

Since it was revealed the officer was put on paid leave, Moore has objected, calling for Capers’ bodycam footage to be released.
