Demonstrators gathered outside the European Council in Brussels on Friday to call on European Union (EU) member states to impose an embargo on Russian oil and gas.

Protesters lay on the ground outside the building as a loudspeaker played air raid sirens and the sounds of bombs dropping.

Organizers said they staged the event to coincide with a meeting of EU ambassadors.

Earlier this week, the European Commission said a sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia was expected “very soon.”
