Speaking before a U.S. Senate hearing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Tuesday, technology company Nvidia’s chief scientist William Dally testified that “uncontrollable artificial intelligence is science fiction, not reality.

"At its core, AI is a software program that is limited by its training, the inputs provided to it, and the nature of its output. We can spur innovation by ensuring AI tools are available to everyone, not concentrated in the hands of a few powerful firms,” Dally said.

Echoing those thoughts, Microsoft President Brad Smith added that “Maybe It’s one of the most important things we need to do so we ensure that the threats that many people worry about remain as part of science fiction and don’t become a new reality. Let’s keep AI under the control of people.”

Tuesday was the third AI-focused hearing hosted by Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., the leaders of the Judiciary subcommittee on privacy, technology and the law.
