A memorial service to Darya Dugina, the daughter of a Russian nationalist who was killed in a car bomb attack, took place in Moscow on Tuesday.
Russia's Federal Security Service has accused Ukraine's secret services on Monday of killing Dugina, in an attack that President Vladimir Putin called "evil." Ukraine has denied involvement, with Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak calling the accusation "propaganda."
Speaking at the service, Dugina's father Alexander Dugin — a vocal supporter of both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moscow's "special military operation" in Ukraine — said that only Russian victory in Ukraine could justify his daughter's death.
After the service, some of Dugina's friends and colleagues said they were hopeful her death could "help convey the message to the government" that it was time to stop "playing around with 'special military operations,’" as Moscow describes its actions in Ukraine.
"It's time to start a war, serious war," said Nikita Monchenko, who knew Dugina.
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov separately said on the same day that “this was a barbaric crime” that cannot be forgiven and there can be “no mercy” for those involved.
