“British Donald Trump”: Many UK politicians, residents welcome Boris Johnson’s resignation

A crowd playing music and singing "Bye Bye Boris" gathered outside 10 Downing Street on Thursday to boo British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as he announced he intended to step down.

The leader of Britain's opposition Labour Party condemned what he described as "lies, fraud and chaos in the country" and called on Johnson to immediately quit as head of government, dismissing as "nonsense" Johnson's plan to remain as a caretaker prime minister until a Conservative Party leadership contest could decide on a new leader.

Scotland's first minister Nicola Sturgeon said Boris Johnson should not be allowed to stay on as Britain's caretaker prime minister after tending his resignation.

People in Manchester, northwest England, welcomed the departure of Johnson, with some describing it as "long overdue."

Nineteen-year-old Emilia Grace said the prime minister should take responsibility for his decision to appoint lawmaker Chris Pincher to a government role involved in pastoral care despite historical and recent accusations of sexual misconduct.
