One phone call changed the course of Mohamedou Ould Slahi’s life. The call - made by a cousin from Osama Bin Laden's phone - formed the basis for his false imprisonment and torture in the US military's Guantanamo Bay prison camp.
His rendition and detention is now the subject of a Hollywood biopic ‘The Mauritanian’. The film, which stars Tahar Rahim as Slahi and Jodie Foster as his lawyer Nancy Hollander, is an eye-opening account of life for prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.
In this episode of The Stream, we meet Slahi and Hollander to discuss the movie, Slahi’s life after release, and efforts to close Guantanamo Bay for good.
