Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday he had a frank and constructive dialog with U.S. lawmakers and looked forward to discussing Ukraine's military needs and its air defence with President Joe Biden.

“Earlier this week at the UN general assembly, I made it clear that no nation can be truly secure in the world if we don’t stand up and defend the freedom of Ukraine from the face of this Russian brutality and aggression,” Biden said.

Zelenskyy responded by thanking Biden for his “strong words,” noting that it was already the third time that the pair of world leaders have met this year. “Now, I look forward, Mr. President, to our discussion for the benefit of our nations and the world.”

The Ukrainian leader received a far quieter reception than the hero’s welcome he got from last year’s visit, but won generally favourable comments on the aid he says he needs to stave off defeat.
