The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine on Wednesday, as the world marked six months since the start of Russia's invasion and the anniversary of Ukraine's independence from Soviet rule.

Russia has launched missiles at a railroad station in Ukraine's central Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the meeting.

The embattled leader explained the broader significance of the rail attack.

"This is our life every day. This is how Russia got prepared for this UN session," Zelenskyy said over a video call. There were deaths and injuries in the missile strikes, Zelenskyy said, warning that the death toll could rise.

In yesterday's UNSC meeting, Russia accused Ukraine of shelling its own Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant with American-made weapons. Russia called the meeting to discuss the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visit to the plant amid heightened tensions and multiple instances of the facility taking indirect fire.
