Kaavan, a 36-year-old bull elephant, began his new life in Cambodia this week by making contact with another elephant - the first time in eight years since his partner died in 2012.
The elephant was brought to an animal sanctuary in the country after efforts by animal rights groups and American singer Cher resulted in his relocation. It came months after Pakistan's high court ruled the zoo in which Kaavan was living should be closed due to abysmal conditions as a result of systemic negligence.
Sean Previl has more on his journey.
