Access to a gigantic natural beauty was finally granted to tourists and crystal lovers 20 years after the discovery inside of an old silver mine in Pilar de Jaravia, in the province of Almeria in Spain.
Concerns over the effect of frequent visitors on the exquisitely translucent crystals within is said to be behind the delay of its opening for guided tours until this time.
"It is special because of its size, eight metres long, 1.7 metres wide and 1.8 metres high. It has crystals as spectacular as some that reach two metres long. They have exceptional transparency, being able to read a book through them," Milagros Carretero, geologist and visit coordinator said, describing the geode.
Guided tours are available to groups of 20 maximum people, with the cost of €22 Euro ($24) per person.
