Ottawa's attempts to broker peace in the Nova Scotia lobster dispute have hit a snag. Allister Surette, appointed as the federal facilitator between commercial and Indigenous fisheries, says he's ready to open dialogue between the two sides.
But as Ross Lord reports, he's facing resistance from Indigenous leaders.
Non-Indigenous counter-protesters disrupted a march by members of the Six Nations First Nation, as a heated land rights dispute over a housing development in Caledonia, Ont. continues to escalate.
The Haudenosaunee people have been demonstrating on the land since July, arguing the housing development is on unceded Indigenous land. On Sunday, more than 100 supporters marched up to police barricades chanting “land back”, while some Caledonia residents looked on.
As Morganne Campbell explains, there are calls for the federal and provincial governments to prioritize resolving these land claim issues.
