Why does the EU so often punch below its weight? The Vice Chair of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee tells DW that EU may need to drop unanimous decision-making on foreign policy to go forward. The EU has struggled to follow a common line on dealing with Russia and the recent crisis in Gaza between Israel and Hamas exposed deep fault lines between EU member states. Former Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet who now is in the European Pariament says maybe it’s time for the EU to shift to majority voting on foreign policy.
