The team, named by U.S. President Joe Biden to lead the administration's strategy and operations to combat the current outbreak of monkeypox in the country, is expected to provide an update on the ongoing response.

Last week, Biden named Robert Fenton of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as response co-ordinator, with Dr. Demetre Daskalakis as deputy c-oordinator. Among their duties is to ensure equitable access to vaccines, tests and treatments and increase the amount seen nationwide.

The administration is also looking into stretching its limited supply of the monkeypox vaccine by allowing a different method of injection that uses one-fifth as much per shot, according to reports. The injection would be into the skin instead of a full dose into underlying fat.

In less than three months, more than 8,900 monkeypox cases have been reported.
