Jill Rochon, owner of independent toy store Jill and the Beanstock in Toronto, says if she could wave her magic wand, she’d make headaches associated with this holiday season disappear.

“It’s been very difficult. Fortunately distributors have made us aware of this problem for the last year and we’ve been getting emails through the summer saying ‘there will not be Christmas stock, order now,’” Rochon says.

She says big box stores have the upper hand.

“If we don’t have a certain product people are going to the big business right away because they can get their product probably easier,” she says.
