WestJet and its pilots have reached an 11th-hour deal to avoid a strike heading into the May long weekend, according to the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).
Some 1,800 pilots at WestJet and Swoop had been poised to walk off the job overnight Friday, after the ALPA served a strike notice Monday.
WestJet had cancelled more than 100 flights in anticipation of the strike, which threatened to upend Canadians’ Victoria Day travel plans.
And as Michael King reports, travellers are now being told to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
