Water Warfare: Massive Deluge Wreaks Havoc!

Pakistan experienced the entry of a significant deluge of 70,000 in the River Chenab from Indian-Occupied Kashmir, which had a detrimental impact on the village of Jalala located near the border. This resulted in the destruction of crops and the flooding of hundreds of acres of land. Consequently, numerous villagers engaged in rice cultivation found themselves stranded. Nevertheless, the local administration promptly initiated a rescue operation and safely evacuated approximately 300 individuals, primarily women and children.

In a separate development, the water released by India into the River Ravi one day earlier is anticipated to reach the Shahdara area of Lahore within the next 24 hours. On Sunday, India discharged 185,000 cusecs of water into the River Ravi, as reported by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Consequently, the NDMA urged the administration and relevant departments in the vulnerable region to enhance their preparedness.

Last year, the Indian authorities released 173 cusecs of water into the river, which falls under the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty signed in 1960, along with the Sutlej and Beas rivers.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), medium-level flooding is currently observed in the River Chenab at Marala, while low-level flooding is reported at Khanki and Qadirabad. The PDMA further disclosed the establishment of relief camps and implementation of other precautionary measures in areas prone to flooding in the Chenab and Ravi rivers, as continuous monitoring of the situation persists.
