Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., spoke Feb. 11 as House impeachment managers continued to present evidence for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump of inciting an insurrection for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
DeGette read a series of statements by the perpetrators of the attack. In an online post written prior, a member of the mob said, "Trump just needs to fire the bat signal ... then the pain comes."
DeGette concluded that the mob's actions were a direct result of Trump's encouragement. "We know who lit the fuse," she said. "Donald Trump told these insurrectionists to come to the Capitol and stop the steal. And they did come to the Capitol and they tried to stop the certification."
