Decorated gymnast Simone Biles testified Sept. 15 before the Senate Judiciary Committee as lawmakers examined if the FBI mishandled its investigation of former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who was convicted in 2018 of sexually abusing women and young female athletes in his care. Biles said she continues to live with scars of Nassar’s abuse, years after. “The announcement in the spring that the 2020 Tokyo games were to be postponed for a year, meant I would be going to the gym, to training, to therapy, living daily among the reminders of this story for another 365 days,” she said.
