WATCH: Rep. Tiffany questions FBI Director Wray in House hearing on Trump shooting probe

Rep. Tom Tiffany, R-Wisc., questioned FBI Director Christopher Wray in a House Judiciary hearing Wednesday about the investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Responding to Tiffany’s questions about the FBI’s assessment of threats at the southern border, Wray said he’s seeing a wide range of threats, including those that emanate from the border and abroad.

“I am increasingly concerned that foreign terrorists could seek to exploit vulnerabilities at our southwest border or at other ports of entries or in other aspects of our immigration system to facilitate an attack here, the United States,” he said. “I think that is something we have to be concerned about.”

There’s been a focus on numbers, Wray said, adding that “it doesn’t take very many foreign terrorists to be a real problem," citing the 9/11 attacks, which were carried out by 19 hijackers.

On Monday, the House Oversight Committee grilled Kimberly Cheatle, director of the U.S. Secret Service at the time of the deadly shooting. Members on both sides of the aisle called for her resignation and she announced Tuesday she was stepping down. Cheatle repeatedly referred lawmakers seeking details to the investigation being carried out by the FBI.
