Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, criticized Pamela S. Karlan, a Stanford law professor, for her characterization of President Donald Trump’s call with Ukraine’s president. In a July 25 call, Trump asked for an investigation into former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. In earlier testimony, Karlan said Trump was using the royal “we” when he said “I would like you to do us a favor.” Jordan said when the call is taken in context, Trump did not mean himself, but rather the nation. The exchange between Jordan and Kaplan came on the first day of public hearings by the House Judiciary Committee as part of the impeachment inquiry into Trump.
