Rep. Lance Gooden, R-Texas, questioned FBI Director Christopher Wray in a House Judiciary hearing Wednesday about the investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, used some of Gooden’s time to ask Wray where all eight bullets that were fired by the shooter went. Wray answered that he did not have that information in front of him, but believed all of the bullets had been “accounted for.”

“There's some question about whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear, so it's conceivable, although as I sit here right now, I don't know whether that bullet in addition to causing the grazing could have also landed somewhere else. But I believe we've accounted for all of the shots and the cartridges,” Wray said.

Earlier this week, the House Oversight Committee grilled Kimberly Cheatle, director of the U.S. Secret Service at the time of the deadly shooting. Members on both sides of the aisle called for her resignation and she announced Tuesday she was stepping down. Cheatle repeatedly referred lawmakers seeking details to the investigation being carried out by the FBI.
