In his remarks ahead of a historic impeachment vote in the House later on Dec. 18, Tom Cole, R-Okla., said he believes he can defend both President Donald Trump and the U.S. Constitution amid the inquiry. Cole called the process leading up to the vote was a "complete charade," adding that it "was a closed process, an unfair process and a rushed process." Cole’s comments happened ahead of a vote on the rules of the impeachment debate. Trump has been charged with two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. If passed, the process will then head for a trial in the Senate, where Republicans have a majority.
