In a news conference from the White House briefing room, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said President Donald Trump asked for National Security Adviser John Bolton’s resignation Monday night and the resignation was received Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019. Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Bolton has disagreements with others in the Trump administration and they were not surprised by his resignation. Earlier in the day, the White House released a schedule that had Bolton also listed to be a speaker at the press briefing. During the briefing, Mnuchin announced a new executive order designed to further combat global terrorist groups through sanctions and other measures.
