Defence Secretary Grant Shapps will make a "planned statement" today, setting out details of a "multi-point plan to support and protect personnel" after the Ministry of Defence was hacked.

The government will not name the country involved, but Sky News understands this to be China.

China has said it "firmly opposes and fights all forms of cyber attacks".

It added it "rejects the use of this issue politically to smear other countries".
