Kurt Volker, the former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine, told House lawmakers on Nov.19 that he saw a distinction between investigating the Ukrainian energy company Burisma and former Vice President Joe Biden, whose son, Hunter, sat on Burisma's board. Speaking during the third day of public hearings in the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, Volker said, “In hindsight, I now understand that others saw the idea of investigating possible corruption involving the Ukrainian company, 'Burisma,' as equivalent to investigating former Vice President Biden. I saw them as very different.” The impeachment inquiry has focused on a July 25 phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
