Evidence from clinical trials and beyond, demonstrate that COVID-19 vaccines are safe for kids and adults, Dr. Payal Patel of the Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation told the PBS NewsHour's Nicole Ellis during a Nov. 12 live conversation. That is why federal health regulators authorized the vaccine for use among kids age 5-11 earlier in November. Children ages 5-11 are the latest group in the United States to be eligible for coronavirus vaccines, joining nearly a quarter billion people aged 12 and up who have had at least one dose so far. In the first week of availability, an estimated 900,000 kids in the new age range will have already gotten shots, the White House said the week of Nov. 8.
