President Joe Biden says he’s unconcerned that newly-elected Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson could affect the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, despite the fact Johnson was closely involved in efforts to undermine the 2020 election.

“Johnson advocated conspiracy theories about voting machines and a rigged election in 2020. He encouraged his colleagues to join a lawsuit to invalidate the results of four states,” PBS Newshour’s @laurabarronlopez said before asking the president if he was worried Johnson could again attempt to overturn the election.

“No,” the president responded.

“Just like I was not worried that the last guy would overturn the election,” Biden said. “They had about 60 lawsuits and they went all the way to the Supreme Court, and every time they lost. I understand the Constitution.”

Biden’s comments came shortly after Johnson was elected speaker thanks to a unanimous vote from his Republican colleagues. The House had been without a speaker for 22 days, completely stalling its ability to function.
