"War with mother nature": At least 7 dead in Buffalo as New York latest hit by monster winter storm

At least seven people were reported dead on Sunday as Buffalo, N.Y. was the latest city to be hit by a monster winter storm that has blown across the U.S., bringing the total dead from the storm to at least 24.

"We are in a war," Gov. Kathy Hochul said. "This is a war with Mother Nature. And she has been hitting us with everything she has since the late hours of Thursday into Friday, Saturday and now on Christmas morning."

Officials said some of those reported dead had been found in cars and some in snow banks. There is a countywide driving ban in Erie County, which includes Buffalo, where snow on Sunday brought the total accumulation of snow to nearly four feet.
