Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said there will be a "strong" response after Russian forces launched missiles at the western city of Lviv, killing at least four people. "Lviv. Consequences of the night attack by Russian terrorists. Unfortunately, there are wounded and dead. My condolences to the relatives! There will definitely be a response to the enemy. A strong one," Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter. He also posted drone footage showing aerial views of wrecked buildings.

Thursday's attack on Lviv, which is located far from the front lines, was described by the city's mayor as the biggest attack on civilian infrastructure in the city since Moscow began its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Nine people were also injured in the attack, which struck an apartment building.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told CNN during an interview that he would have liked to launch a counteroffensive to take back territories from Russia sooner. "I am grateful to the US as the leaders of our support but I told them as well as the European leaders that we would like to start our counteroffensive earlier, and we need all the weapons and material for that." Zelenskyy spoke to CNN through an interpreter in Odesa and said difficulties on the battlefield are leading to a "slowed down" counteroffensive. The Ukrainian president has previously stressed that he was strategically positioning troops. While the counterattack is underway on the southern and eastern front lines, Ukrainian officials say the main push is yet to come.
