The US military says it targeted operational and weapons storage facilities at two locations in Syria and one location in Iraq, attacks that have slammed as a "breach of sovereignty".

The US says it hit facilities that were being used to launch attacks against its troops.

One of the groups targeted has vowed revenge for 4 of its fighters killed in the strike by declaring open war against US targets in Iraq, a statement that raises concerns of an escalation of violence.
