It was only on Thursday night that US president Donald Trump claimed the country was turning the corner on the coronavirus pandemic. A day later, the US set a new record for the number of daily infections, with nearly 80 thousand cases in 24 hours. The pandemic is set to dominate the final days of campaigning before the election.
