The U.S. Coast Guard released video on Monday of its members rescuing three men after their boat capsized off the coast of Empire, Louisiana on Sunday, leaving them stranded with no means of communication for 24 hours.

Two of the men were treated for hypothermia and shark bites to their hands.

A concerned family member initially reported the men missing, according to the Coast Guard.

“Using geolocation and orienting ourselves to the map and some of the contours from Google maps of the Gulf of Mexico, we were able to, in the command centre, identify the location,” said rescue coordinator Lt. Cmdr Kevin Keefe.

“It’s difficult for us to describe how lucky they were that all these things lined up in their favour.”

Two of the three men were recovered by a Station Venice 45-foot response boat, while a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk rescued the third.
