The UN's Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen says the tragedy of the 10-year war will go down as "one of the darkest chapters in recent history".
Pedersen was briefing the UN Security Council on the 10th anniversary of the conflict and expressed "profound regret" on the United Nations' failure to broker peace there.
