Experts in Germany warn the country may be hit by a recession if it cuts back on Russian gas too quickly.

Moscow supplies almost half of the country's gas, heating homes and powering its large industrial sector.

And since the war began, Germany has sent nearly £7.5bn back to Russia, effectively financing the war in Ukraine.

So ministers are caught between a moral and economic dilemma.
