Incumbent Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko cast his vote in the presidential election at a polling station in Kiev on Sunday.
According to the opinion polls, Poroshenko is one of the three most popular candidates alongside with former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and actor-turned-politician Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
“I am convinced that elections were well organized, the citizens' choice will be expressed, this is an absolutely necessary condition for us to move forward - forward towards Ukraine’s return into the family of European nations, towards our membership in European Union and NATO,” Poroshenko said after casting his ballot.
The polling stations across the country are open from 08:00 local time until 20:00. More than 35 million people are eligible to vote in Ukraine's seventh presidential elections.
If no one secures an absolute majority of the votes, the run-off election between the top two candidates will be held on April 21.
