Hundreds of veterans from across the UK took part in a memorial service marking 50 years since the beginning of the British troops' deployment in Northern Ireland, known as Operation Banner, in Lisburn on Saturday. Footage shows ex-personnel holding a parade and a flag ceremony.
"There'll be a drumhead service to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and also those who maybe suffered injuries and hardships on account of their service in Operation Banner. So it's to recognise and to look back and reflect on fifty years and the role that was played by the security forces in that time," said David Crabbe, President of Decorum NI, an organisation that supports those who served during the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Operation Banner took place in Northern Ireland between 1960 and 2007, costing the British armed forces hundreds of lives.
