Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser announced on Saturday that the country would be accepting more Turkish and Syrian residents impacted by the deadly earthquakes more than a month ago, as well as making it easier for those on a temporary stay in Canada to extend their visit.

Fraser said they would prioritize the visa applications of people from the two countries, and allow those who have a temporary status to visit family, study, or work in Canada, to apply for an extension. The federal government will also waive the application fees.

His department would also prioritize processing temporary visa applications for people affected by the earthquake.
