Trump says Arizona abortion ruling went too far

Former President Donald Trump said Wednesday that an Arizona law banning nearly all abortions is too extreme and that he would not sign a national abortion ban if he was in the White House and Congress approved one.

"It’s all about states’ rights,” Trump said during a stop in Georgia. "It’ll be straightened out, and I’m sure that the governor and everybody else are going to bring it back into reason and that’ll be taken care of, I think, very quickly.”

Trump's comments came a day after the Arizona Supreme Court handed down a landmark decision allowing a ban on almost all abortions based on a state law created in 1864. He is facing increasing pressure on abortion rights, an issue Democrats are hoping to capitalize on in the 2024 presidential race.
