While Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau tried to focus on his government's efforts on COVID-19 vaccines during a campaign stop Friday, the Afghanistan crisis once again was the centre of attention with thousands of Afghan refugees still hoping for help even as the Canadian evacuation effort came to an end.

Trudeau stressed Canada was working around the clock to get people out and that they were committed to resettling 20,000 Afghans, but at least one former diplomat feels Canada needs to get back into the country to get people out. Abigail Bimman reports.

While the Liberal Leader is defending his government's actions, Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole laid out his party's plan on how they would respond to the crisis, including working with neighbouring countries to create safe, humanitarian and refugee corridors.

But experts are cautioning there is no simple answer to the crisis and efforts to create safe passage, as O'Toole is suggesting, could be difficult due to the current geopolitical climate. Mike Le Couteur explains.
