The past year has been a difficult one for many people, but for Nova Scotians it has been especially hard.

The province is not only dealing with the novel coronavirus pandemic, it is also struggling to come to terms with a string of other heartbreaking tragedies.

In April, a man dressed as a Mountie took 22 lives in a killing spree that started in Portapique. Later that month, tragedy struck again when a Navy helicopter crashed off the coast of Greece. Then, less than three weeks after the helicopter went down, a Canadian Forces Snowbirds jet crashed in Kamloops, B.C.

In September, a dispute between Indigenous and commercial lobster fishers boiled over, and remains unresolved.

Ross Lord reports on the tragedy, and the toll it’s taking on the community.
