Toronto Mayor John Tory provided an update on Wednesday about the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as the city moves to speed up and mobilize its vaccination rollout, and increase its efforts to cover hot spots.

Tory introduced the "Team Toronto Sprint Strategy" that will focus on ramping up vaccinations in the 13 "hottest" hot spot postal codes over the next two weeks, bringing vaccine doses to where eligible people, aged 18 and over, live. Capacity in hot spot clinics will also be increased.

948,657 doses have been administered in the city so far.

Tory was joined by chief medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa and fire chief Matthew Pegg, who also heads the city's emergency operations.

Ontario is reporting 4,212 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with 1,249 cases of those cases in Toronto.
