The Tamilnadu Governor has given his assent to a new law that paves way for a 7.5 % quota in medical admission for NEET qualified students from government schools. These students largely from underprivileged backgrounds can't afford private coaching and their medical dreams have largely remained elusive despite cracking NEET. 13 students including toppers have died by suicide over the issue in the last few years. Just yesterday the state government had issued an executive order amid delay by the Governor. Tamil Nadu's Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan spoke to NDTV on what the new law would mean to medical aspirants in government schools across the state.
