Tens of thousands of people in several European countries, including Greece, France and Italy, have protested against anti-COVID measures.
In Athens, Greek police tried to break up protests against compulsory COVID-19 vaccinations; some protesters threw petrol bombs and the police responded with tear gas.
The mood was the same in Paris where tear gas filled the air as protesters opposed to a government virus pass faced off against riot police.
The EU says 200 million Europeans have now been fully vaccinated - more than half of all adults - but that falls short of the 70-percent target set for the summer.
Al Jazeera’s Alexi O’Brien reports.
