"The end of Hong Kong": Activists protest against China's national security law proposal

More than a dozen pro-democracy lawmakers and other activists protested at a police station to the legislature following Beijing's move to impose a new security law on the city after last year's pro-democracy unrest.

Lee Cheuk-Yan of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China said "one country, two systems" was being eroded by Beijing, and that President Xi Jinping is "burning Hong Kong and China will burn with us."

There have been a number of scuffles in the legislature in recent weeks, with rival lawmakers in a row over procedures having to do with the leadership of a key committee.

Details of the proposal were unveiled on Friday, a day after Beijing proposed the new controversial national security legislation that critics see as a historical turning point for China's semi-autonomous city.
