The polls close, and vote counting gets underway in Thailand.  Pro-democracy opposition parties are tipped to defeat the military-backed government of incumbent Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-O-Cha.

Polls are now closed and results are expected in the coming hours. The former army leader first came to power in a 2014 coup.
