Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said that he was “misled” and “absolutely livid” at a news conference in Uvalde on Friday about information he had inaccurately shared on the Texas school shooting.
The briefing took place at the same time as the National Rifle Association's (NRA) convention began in Houston, just days after a shooting at Robb Elementary School left at least 21 people dead, including 19 students.
“It is imperative that the leaders of the investigations about exactly what happened get down to the very second of exactly what happened. With 100% accuracy and explain it to the public, but most importantly to the victims who have been devastated,” Abbott said.
Abbott was supposed to attend the NRA convention, but his office released a press release the evening before the event indicating he would instead be holding a news conference at Uvalde High School. It is reported that he will be sending a pre-recorded video to the summit in place of an in-person appearance.
Law enforcement has been facing criticism over how they handled the shooting rampage amid reports that witnesses of the Uvalde school shooting had urged police.
