Taliban soldiers guarded Afghanistan’s biggest military hospital, searching visitors who were entering the facility, a day after two deadly explosions and gunmen killed at least 25 people and wounded more than 50.
The explosions hit the hospital entrance, followed by an assault by a group of Islamic State gunmen, all of whom were killed within 15 minutes, a Taliban spokesman said.
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The blasts add to a growing list of attacks and killings since the U.S. troop withdrawal and Taliban victory over the western-backed government in August, undermining the group’s claim that they have restored security to Afghanistan after decades of war.
