Returning from four defeats in a row, Real Sociedad beat Real Madrid in Madrid's home stadium, Sunday. Real Madrid's player Lucas Vazquez was red carded, leaving the field of play in the second half.
Madrid head coach Santiago Solari says the players were distracted early in the game and were unable to turn the match around later on. He felt there were penalties that were missed and questioned the use of the video assisted referee (VAR), after the referee ruled out a penalty and did not consult the technology, despite protestations. "We think that's the point of the VAR and other technologies. If it is not for this then it loses all reason to be. We are all human and we all make mistakes but if we have the option to review the evidence and you do not, it is difficult to understand," Solari expressed.
