During a press conference on Thursday, B.C. Premier David Eby spoke about the "distressing" response to gender inclusivity programs in schools, specifically from the Conservatives.

"The threat to children is not school librarians or teachers, and it's certainly not a bunch of little kids," Eby said. "To have culture war distractions, frankly, and people trying their best to drive wedges between British Columbians is not something we should tolerate here."

John Rustad, leader of the Conservative Party of B.C., was criticized by both Indigenous communities and LGBTQ2 activists for a social media post critics say compares the province’s sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) resources to residential schools.

Some B.C. parents have expressed concern with the gender-inclusive educational resources, saying it is taking away their right to decide what their children learn in public schools.
